REGISTRATION OPEN THROUGH MAY 24, 2019.

June 10-21, 2019

As a program of the National Institute of Flamenco, Flamenco Kids Camp is a two-week day camp introducing children ages 6-12 to the full range of flamenco arts and culture. Flamenco Kids Camp is a fun, creative outlet featuring classes in dance, guitar, cajón (percussion), cante (singing), Spanish language, and literacy.

 

What’s included?

Included with the camp tuition, students receive a Kids Camp T-Shirt, tote bag, and one (1) ticket to attend a world-class flamenco performance held during this year’s 32nd Annual Festival Flamenco Alburquerque. The camp concludes with a free performance on Friday, June 21st for friends and family at the South Arena in the Elizabeth Waters Center for Dance (Carlisle Gym), where students demonstrate all they have learned during the course of the camp.

 

Student Levels

Flamenco Kids Camp is open to absolute beginners, new students, and children with beginning to intermediate level flamenco dance experience. Children ages 10 and older with higher levels of experience (3+ years of Flamenco kids camp or equivalent technique experience at their studio) may apply to particpate in Festival Juvenil, the youth component of Festival Flamenco Alburquerque. Please feel free to contact us regarding questions about student placement.

***Please note: All current NIF students receive a 50% tuition subsidy ($250 discount) and are not eligible for Kids Camp scholarships.***

Festival Juvenil 2019

June 15-22, 2019

 Sponsored by the National Institute of Flamenco, Festival Juvenil is the youth component of Festival Flamenco Alburquerque and the premier national flamenco camp for experienced young flamenco dancers ages 10-15. Students will take exclusive Festival Juvenil classes together as part of a selective cohort of dancers, in addition to select Festival Flamenco workshops. Students will be surrounded by the vibrant energy of Festival Flamenco participants and over 40 Spanish Guest Artists, as the camp is located on site with our full line up of Festival Flamenco workshops at the University of New Mexico. This program provides a bridge for teen and tween dancers who are ready for the next level of their flamenco training in a highly-focused, supportive, and supervised environment.  Only 20 spots are available for the 2019 Festival Juvenil. Registration will be taken on a first paid, first reserved basis.

Tuition Rate: $900

Payment plans are available. Minimum $300 payment required to reserve spot.

A limited number of scholarships are available for families with financial need. Please inquire.

 

What’s included?

Within their cohort, dancers will take the following classes daily:

●     Stretch & Warm-Up (optional)

●     Beginning/Intermediate Technique in Danza Española, Claudia Pizarro

●     Private choreography review session for Festival Juvenil participants

●     Intermediate Choreography with Festival Guest Artist, Manuel Betanzos

●     Flamenco Cante with Festival Guest Artist, Eva Ruíz

●     Rhythm & Cajón with Festival Guest Artist, Javier Teruel

●     Cuadro & Student Choreography with Yjastros Soloist, Carlos Menchaca

 Included with tuition, students also receive:

·      Festival Juvenil T-Shirt

·      Festival Juvenil Tote Bag

·      Practice Skirt or Warm-Up pants

·      Youth Size Cajón (students will take the instrument home at the end of the camp)

·      Daily Sack Lunch & Snacks provided by Festival Flamenco’s “Café Olé”

·      and tickets to attend TWO (2) world-class flamenco performances held during this year’s 32nd Annual Festival Flamenco Alburquerque (1 ticket per show).

Performance Opportunity:

The camp concludes with a free afternoon performance on Saturday, June 22th for friends and family at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, where students demonstrate all they have learned during the course of the Festival Juvenil.

 

Festival Juvenil 2019 Orientation

REQUIRED ORIENTATION: FRIDAY, JUNE 14, 2019 from 5:30-6:30PM

 There will be a required orientation meeting for parents on the FRIDAY prior to the start of Camp. Details will be mailed and/or e-mailed home to the parents of all confirmed registered campers.  

It is important to attend this orientation in order to meet your child’s teachers and camp leaders, to receive important details about what to expect during camp, and to pick up your child’s T-shirt, skirt or warm-up pants, and tote bag.

 If you cannot attend the orientation on June 14th, please contact the Festival Juvenil staff upon registration.

Daily Schedule
Saturday, June 15th will follow a modified introductory schedule from 9:00am-3:00pm to allow students begin to become familiarized with their classes before the Spanish Guest Artists and Festival Flamenco participants arrive on campus. All FFABQ 32 Guest Artist classes begin on Sunday, June 16th. All Festival Juvenil workshops finish on Friday, June 21st. Students complete the camp with a group performance at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on Saturday, June 22nd.
