19th ANNUAL FLAMENCO KIDS CAMP

 

Flamenco Kids Camp is the youth component of Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque sponsored by the National Institute of Flamenco. This two-week day camp introduces children ages 6-12 to the full range of flamenco arts and culture. Flamenco Kids Camp is a fun, creative outlet featuring classes in dance, guitar, cajón (percussion), cante (singing), Spanish language, and literacy. Included with the camp tuition, students receive a Kids Camp T-Shirt, tote bag, and a ticket to attend a world-class flamenco performance held during this year’s 31st Annual Festival Flamenco. The camp concludes with a free performance for friends and family at the historic Kimo Theater, where students demonstrate all they have learned during the course of the camp. Remember that space is limited and registration is taken on a first-come/first-served basis!

 

Flamenco Kids Camp is held at The Conservatory of Flamenco Arts, located just a few blocks from the University of New Mexico where Festival Flamenco workshops are held. We invite our Festival Flamenco participants with young children to bring them along for their own flamenco adventure! Pro-rated prices are available. Please call for complete details.

Festival Juvenil is the premier national flamenco youth summer camp. Designed especially as a bridge program between Kids' Camp and Festival Flamenco, Festival Juvenil runs parallel to Festival Flamenco. This unique program allows youth to partake in the rich experience of Festival Flamenco while building camaraderie with a cohort of their own peers.

Technique classes provide the student with skills necessary to learn choreography. The Intermediate Technique class focuses on hand, arm, and torso placement, coordination and integration. Escuela Bolera originated as a fusion of popular dances and classical ballet. Performed in ballet slippers and often with castanets, a vast vocabulary of classical ballet was combined with typical 18th century expressions and movements.  Through its evolution, Esculea Bolera has developed its own specific vocabulary. Zapatillas, ballet slippers, or a soft jazz shoe can be used for this class.

Danza estilizada española consists of composed steps and choreographies based on the movement vocabulary from popular and classical Spanish dance.  Danza estilizada española is highly theatrical and artistic in interpretation, and utilizes the music of many of Spain's great composers of the 18th & 19th centuries. Danza estilizada española builds upon knowledge of classical dance (ballet), escuela bolero, flamenco, Spanish folk dance, and castanets.  Training in castanets is vital for the dancer of this genre.  Castanets, castañuelas, or pallios are used to enrich the movement and music of danza estilizada española

1. CASH REFUNDS FOR CANCELLATION OF YOUR PURCHASE
a. Purchases made from the Official Festival Office at the National of Flamenco

The deadline to receive cash refunds for cancellation of any portion of your festival purchase is May 9, 2018 at 5:00PM MDT.

***ALL REFUNDS MUST BE PRE-APPROVED***

STEP 1: All cancellations must be submitted in writing via our online Festival Refund Request Form available at ffiabq.org.

STEP 2: A Festival Staff Member will contact you to review and process your refund request.

All cash refunds, minus a $20 processing fee per transaction will be returned if cancellation notice is received by the stated deadline.

b. Purchases made from Festival Partner Venues/3rd Party Vendors

Requests for refunds from our Festival Partner Venues or 3rd Party Vendors (ie. single ticket purchases made outside of the Official Festival Office) must be made directly through the vendor and/or venue directly. Purchase and refund policies vary by vendor.

The National Institute of Flamenco will not grant refunds (full or partial) or Festival Credits for purchases made through Festival Partner Venues or 3rd Party Vendors.

2. REQUESTS FOR SCHEDULE/PURCHASE CHANGES
a. If you require a change to your festival schedule/purchase, please contact our Festival Staff by phone at 505-242-7600.
If your schedule change results in a refund, and is processed prior to the cash refund deadline (May 9, 2018 at 5:00PM MDT), a Festival Refund Request Form will be required.
b. All cash refunds, minus a $20 processing fee per transaction will be returned if notice of schedule/purchase change is received by the stated deadline. ALL ACCESS and VIP PACKAGE holders are exempt from processing fees for schedule changes.
c. If a schedule/purchase change is requested after May 9, 2018 at 5:00PM MDT, students will receive a FFI 31 Credit toward another festival purchase (ie. Festival class, workshop, ticket package, or Special Experience Package).
i. FFI 31 Credits may not be applied to retail items.
ii. FFI 31 Credits will expire on June 16, 2018 at 11:59PM MDT.
iii. FFI 31 Credits are not transferable to other individuals, may not be exchanged, and may not be sold online.

3. POLICY FOR NON-ATTENDANCE OF FFI 31
a. Individuals must notify the Festival Staff in writing prior to the first day of Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque 2018 to receive either a Refund or Extended Festival Credit per the appropriate deadline.
b. Notifications received by May 9, 2018 at 5:00PM MDT will follow all policies for Cash Refunds and Cancellations, as stated above.
c. Individuals who have notified the Festival Staff in writing after May 9, 2018 at 5:00PM MDT will be issued an Extended Festival Credit less a 25% processing fee, upon approval.
i. Approval for Extended Festival Credits must be submitted in writing via our online Festival Refund Request Form available at ffiabq.org.
ii. Extended Festival Credits may not be applied to retail items.
iii. Extended Festival Credits are valid for one year from the date of issue for purchase of future Festival Flamenco classes, workshops, ticket packages, and/or Special Experience Packages.
iv. Extended Festival Credits are not transferable to other individuals, may not be exchanged, and may not be sold online.
d. Individuals who fail to contact the Festival Staff in writing before June 8, 2018 at 11:59 MDT will forfeit their festival purchase in full. Extended Festival Credits will not be issued for any reason.
